Master Data
Management
What is Master
Data? Master
data is a set of
core data
elements and
their associated
hierarchies,
attributes,
properties and
dimensions.
Master data is
not
transactional
data i.e. it is
not the
information
generated and
captured by
operational
systems that
describes the
activities or
transactions of
the business.
Instead, master
data is used to
categorize,
aggregate and
evaluate
transactional
data. Master
data is the set
of control data
that lets IT
systems and
users understand
the meaning of
each piece of
data:
Master data
management
is a process
that spans all
organizational
business
processes and
applications
systems. It
provides the
ability to
create, store,
maintain,
exchange, and
synchronize a
consistent,
accurate and
timely “system
of record” for
the core master
data elements
such as
customer,
product,
employee,
vendor, location
and so on.
